iOS: Wi-Fi settings grayed out or dim

 

Symptoms

In rare instances, the setting to turn on Wi-Fi on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch may appear "grayed out" or dim. If this occurs, you will not be able to turn Wi-Fi on.

You may see the following when you tap Settings > Wi-Fi. When you attempt to turn Wi-Fi on, your device will not respond.

Note: If you are using iOS 7, Wi-Fi may appear to turn on and off in Control Center, but Wi-Fi will not respond.
